Two people killed in New Tecumseth crash involving train, vehicle (update)

OPP say one person pronounced dead at the scene, another died in hospital; three others remain in Toronto trauma centre

Nov. 2 update:
Nottawasaga OPP are requesting assistance from the public.

Police are aware that there was at least one vehicle that witnessed the incident.

Police are requesting that if you observed the collision, please come forward to assist with this serious investigation.

At this time one vehicle occupant still remains in hospital and the other two have been discharged and are now home.

Witnesses are asked to contact the Nottawasaga OPP Detachment at 1-888-310-1122.

Original Oct. 15 release:
Members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a serious collision overnight involving a passenger vehicle and a train.

At approximately 11:04 p.m., police responded to the 5th Line of New Tecumseth for a serious collision. On scene, police along with Simcoe County Paramedic Services began immediately assisting five occupants of a passenger vehicle.

On scene, one vehicle occupant was confirmed deceased and four others were transported to a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries.

At this time, one of the four transported has since succumbed to their injuries.

Names are being withheld at this time pending next-of-kin notifications.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators attended the scene last night and commenced their investigation. The road has been re-opened.

No charges have been laid at this time as the investigation is ongoing to determine the cause. More details to come as they become available.
