South Simcoe Police continue to receive reports of a variety of frauds involving the internet. The latest report involves a victim who unfortunately called a scam phone number thinking it was an online payment service.

The scammer stated the victim needed to go to a local store and purchase gift cards to 'fix' the victim's account. The victim complied and purchased more than $1,000 worth of cards. South Simcoe Police Service would like to remind our residents that no legitimate company requires gift cards as payment.

If a company or service is asking for gift cards, hang up. It's a scam. Also ensure you have the valid phone number for companies when calling to address your accounts.
