Christmas at Coulson's Hill Public School circa 1927

A Christmas concert featuring a special programme of entertainment, and a farewell to a beloved teacher

Postcard Memories is a series of historic views, stories and photos of Bradford West Gwillimbury, a trip down memory lane on a Saturday morning.

On Dec. 22, 1927, Coulson's Hill Public School in Bradford put on their annual Christmas concert with parents, friends and family members coming to see the students perform and listen to a mix of dialogues, drills, club swinging and dancing with a special appearance from the Big Guy in Red at the end.

An address was made by Reeve Hambly, and everyone in attendance appeared to be having a holly, jolly good time.

Presents were distributed at which time Reeve Hambly announced that the beloved teacher of the school, Miss Ball had resigned after accepting a new position at one of the public schools in Barrie, her hometown.

Miss Ball was one of the favourite teachers of the school and would be greatly missed.

As a token of appreciation for her hard work, Reeve Hambly presented her with a solid walnut table ad book trough, while giving her his best wishes.

Miss Ball thanked everyone in attendance, vowing to never forget the memories made at Coulson's Hill school.

After the singing of the national anthem, the seats were cleared away and 'On with the Dance' was ordered where a number of former students showed parents how to perform the latest dances, followed by parents teaching the youth how to do the moves of the Lancers, Promenades and Waltzes.
