Raise funds for a great cause and don't forget to stretch first!

Nature’s Emporium Run for Southlake, in support of the Southlake Regional Health Centre is taking place in person on April 24 (and through the month of April virtually).

The in person run starts at 8 a.m. and Rhonda Flanagan, Director of Development, expects upwards of 1,000 participants this year.

“We are celebrating 10 year of Nature’s Emporium as being our title sponsor, but the timed 5k road race has been around for 20 years,” Flanagan shares. “It’s our first time back as an in person event since COVID-19. However, to ensure everyone’s comfort we continue to offer a virtual component where participants can walk, run or do any other activity they choose from home.”

The event is so popular that not even COVID-19 could dampen the racers’ enthusiasm.

“Our previous virtual-only events were quite successful,” says Flanagan. “Participants joined us at various workshops over the month where participants could track their health and wellness goals all month long. This year we felt not everyone was quite ready to come back, so we continue to offer a virtual component.”

The community event appeals to all ages. On race day you’ll see youth, adults, seniors, families, local mayors and other dignitaries from the area. “We also get a lot of local businesses and sponsors that put together teams,” adds Flanagan. “One of our participants is racing for 26 hours straight leading up to our run! She is one of our top fundraisers and is doing 2.6 km per hour because she is passionate about what we do.”

The Nature’s Emporium Run for Southlake is the Southlake Foundation’s largest annual fundraiser.

“This year we are looking to raise $200,000 in our peer-to-peer fundraising. We did see a bit of a drop during COVID-19 and look forward to getting the numbers back up again. Over the last 10 years the event has raised more than $2.2 million net for the Southlake Regional Health Centre. Funds raised support leading edge care close to home for many municipalities that are close to the hospital. This run is an important event that brings the community together.”

The run is rain or shine, great fun and empowers you to make a difference in your community while taking part in person or virtually. Registration is $50 for an adult and $25 for youth 18 and under.
