The BWG Library is welcoming visitors inside the building again starting today – Monday, July 12!

COVID-19 may forever alter the library experience, but the BWG Library’s commitment to serving our community has not changed.  Library staff have connected with community members virtually over the past year and have found creative ways to deliver programs, resources and services to our community in the safest way possible.  Now, however, we are ready to welcome visitors inside the building.

After many internal planning meetings, guidance from provincial and local officials, consulting other library systems and conferring with local experts, the BWG Library management team have a plan in place to open in a safe and responsible way.

When the Library facilities reopen, visitors will notice changes to their Library experience.  Library staff will be wearing personal protective equipment and following enhanced cleaning protocols.  Visitors to the BWG Library will be required to wear a face covering that shields their mouth, nose and chin, as well as to maintain social distancing for the safety of our staff and fellow patrons.  The BWG Library will continue to offer walk-up service and contactless pick up, as well as printing and photocopying services.

Other changes will include increased cleaning of facilities, as well as continued quarantining of returned materials.  BWG Library’s hours of operation for browsing and internet access remain Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Thursdays from 1:30 to 7:00 p.m.

In order to allow everyone who wants to visit the Library to access our materials and resources safely, a maximum of 25% capacity will be enforced and library visits are limited to one hour.  Visitors may split their time between browsing and the Computer Café, but this means that 30 minutes may be spent in the Computer Café and 30 minutes browsing.  We ask that members of the community respect the one-hour time limit in order to ensure that everyone has access to the library and its resources.

Computers will continue to be available and computer sessions will be 30 minutes per person per day in order to allow for COVID-19 related cleaning and to ensure equal access to the internet.  Borrowers will be asked to use hand sanitizer prior to using a computer.

The Cooling Centre will remain available on days when the library is open and there is a heat advisory.  At this time, meeting and study rooms will remain closed and we will continue to provide virtual programs.  As restrictions to the number of members of the public in our building eases, we will explore opportunities to expand these services.

Thank you to the BWG community for the patience each of you have had and the support you have offered.  We look forward to seeing you and our BWG community in person!
