PROCLAMATION: National AccessAbility Awareness Week - May 26 – June 1, 2019
National AccessAbility Awareness Week was established in 1987 following Rick Hanson’s 40,000 km Man in Motion Tour; and
Many persons living with disabilities face barriers in the areas of employment, information and technology, transportation, housing, education and recreation; and
One in seven Canadians currently has a disability that they were either born with or developed over the course of their life, with that number expected to increase substantially as the population ages over the next 20 years; and
The Government of Ontario wishes to see all citizens able to enjoy full participation in their communities; and
The BWG Accessibility Advisory Committee is committed to increasing public awareness and breaking down barriers faced by persons with disabilities.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That His Worship Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim May 26 – June 1, 2019 as National AccessAbility Awareness Week in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
