PROCLAMATION: National Organ and Tissue Donation Awareness Week - April 18 - 24, 2021

WHEREAS:

Organ and tissue donation and transplant save and enhance thousands of lives each year. One organ donor can save 8 lives and enhance the lives of 75 more through the gift of tissue; and

WHEREAS:

Today, in Ontario, there are over 1,600 people waiting for a lifesaving organ transplant. This is their only treatment option, and every 3 days someone will die because they did not get their transplant in time; and

WHEREAS:

While 33 per cent of Ontarians have already registered their consent for organ and tissue donation, only 27 per cent of residents of Bradford West Gwillimbury are registered organ donors; and

WHEREAS:

All Ontarians can help save lives by registering your consent for donation online at beadonor.ca and talking to your loved ones about organ and tissue donation.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

That His Worship Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim April 18 - 24, 2021 as NATIONAL ORGAN AND TISSUE DONATION AWARENESS WEEK in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
