Lawn Watering Regulations

In Effect through September 30, 2023

It’s the time of year when the demand for water is at its peak and to ensure we always have enough water to meet the needs of everyone in BWG, we need to work together to manage our water use.

BWG's Lawn Watering By-law was enacted in 2014 to help balance the use of our municipal water supply. This helps ensure that in addition to normal daily activities like drinking, cooking, and bathing, we also have enough water for emergency uses like firefighting.

Here’s what you need to know before watering your lawns, gardens, and other landscaping on your property:

  • Watering is only permitted between 6:00 pm and 8:00 am
  • EVEN numbered addresses can only water between the permitted times on EVEN numbered days
  • ODD numbered addresses can only water between the permitted times on ODD numbered days

For example: a house with an odd-number address like 13, 1271 or 899 can water on any odd-number date like June 5th or August 17th - but not on an even date like July 6th or September 22nd.

There are some exceptions to the regulations including when installing new plants, after fertilizer treatment, and after installing new sod. Learn more about the regulations, exceptions, and water-saving tips at www.townofbwg.com/lawnwatering
