Nottawasaga OPP reported an increased police presence in the downtown Alliston area Tuesday night due to an ongoing investigation.

Updated on May 1 at 9:55 a.m.: Nottawasaga OPP concluded its investigation April 30 and there is no longer an immediate threat to public safety. The OPP thanks residents for their understanding and cooperation.

Nottawasaga OPP is currently reporting an increased police presence in the downtown Alliston area due to an ongoing investigation.

According to public advisory notices issued by the detachment Tuesday night, the investigation centres around a "male individual armed with a knife" in the area around Albert and Victoria streets.

“Residents are requested to remain indoors and to avoid the area,” police said on X, the social-media platform formerly known as Twitter. “If observed, do NOT approach and call 911 immediately.”
