Innisfil Town Square is expected to be closed until the first week of June, the municipality says.

Innisfil Town Square is under repair.

The outdoor municipal recreation facility, located at 971 Innisfil Beach Rd. in Alcona, will be closed for nearly one month while concrete remediation and other reconstruction work is completed. The closure took effect May 6 and the site is now blocked off by a red fence; repairs should be finished by the first week of June, the town says.

“Innisfil’s Town Square has quickly become a valuable asset and meeting place for residents who enjoy this space for skating in the winter, a playground and splash pad for children, and a venue for live entertainment,” town capital project manager Meredith Goodwin said. “We want to ensure this space is well-maintained and available year-round for all to enjoy. As such, we, working alongside the contractor, are doing some remediation work on the area to ensure the sustainability of Town Square. We anticipate this work will take about a month to complete and during that time, we won’t be hosting any activities there but are confident Town Square will be fully operational in time for summer activities.”

The contractor is conducting the work this spring while the park is still under warranty, the municipality said in a recent social-media post.

“While construction is never convenient, the project should be wrapped up before the summer season and the opening of the splash pad! We appreciate your patience and understanding as we ensure the park remains safe and enjoyable for everyone," the post reads.

It is one of two closures made to large outdoor recreational spaces in town this week.

Residents were also prohibited from entering Centennial Park (2870 7th Line) on Wednesday and Thursday, as the town undertook several park and stormwater projects, including tree inspection and removal, reseeding of damaged turf within the dog park, and pond maintenance.

Town Square officially opened in January 2023. It features a splash pad, playground, skating trail and stage, as well as seated warming areas, washrooms and lockers.
