BEHIND THE SCENES: Mission accomplished: Local amputee conquers the CN Tower climb

BayToday reporter Chris Dawson takes us behind the scenes

Wayne Eyre, a 71-year-old trainer with the Nipissing Lakers varsity hockey team, accomplished his goal of finishing the CN Tower Climb in Toronto in less than 30 minutes. Eyre had his right leg amputated in December 2021, and this was his first time participating in the event with his prosthetic leg.

Eyre's inspiring story was recently featured in BayToday, where he explained that the CN Tower Climb was something he wanted to do shortly after his amputation. "You can be satisfied to walk from point A to point B and that is it. Or you can decide to have your life back. For me, it was an easy decision," said Eyre, a retired paramedic.

Despite his recent amputation, Eyre has taken part in the Climb before and was determined to finish it again. "It was nice to see where I am at compared to 10 years ago with everything that has happened," he said. Eyre was able to complete more than 140 flights of stairs in less than the average time of 30-40 minutes.
