Ward 2: Brian Carruthers wants to preserve Bradford's small-town farming culture

We asked the Bradford West Gwillimbury municipal election candidates to introduce themselves. Here is what Carruthers had to say

Who is Brian Carruthers?

Brian is a responsible professional, and a person who cares about the people in our community and how we live and interact.

He has been a resident of Bradford West Gwillimbury since 1998, and he was raised locally in the farming community of Queensville, East Gwillimbury.

He is a dad to two sons, who have grown up in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, and who are actively involved in community sports and fundraising.

Brian feels it’s time to get involved and to contribute and influence the decision making and planning for our great town.

Career:

Brian became a professional engineer in 1988 after obtaining his mechanical engineering degree from the University of Ottawa.

In 2005, Brian received his certification as a project management professional. He has been accountable for the success of large-scale multidisciplinary projects that involve organizations with global scope.Brian has taught engineering and project management at Georgian College.

Goals:

Brian’s goal is to work for and represent the people of Ward 2 in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. He will provide the residents with representation and effort to satisfy both short- and long-term needs of the community. Brian looks forward to working for you to preserve our small-town farming culture while embracing new opportunities for our community.

Brian’s plan:

  • To be respectful and responsible with taxpayers dollars, and keep property tax increases in line with the rate of inflation
  • Find ways to reduce costs by initiating a review of the town’s continuous improvement process and metrics for measuring service delivery
  • Promote Bradford West Gwillimbury to businesses in order to create more employment opportunities for all
  • Review of the terms for responsible growth
  • Propose a review of housing so as to meet the needs of our residents
  • Support ongoing road improvements
