Community, first responders join parade of gratitude for Newmarket's health-care heroes (14 photos, video)

The parade of vehicles circled Southlake Regional Health Centre yesterday afternoon

It's hard to let our frontline health-care workers know just how deeply grateful we are.

But hundreds of residents joined a parade of vehicles, led by first responders and the sound of sirens, to circle Southlake Regional Health Centre yesterday to as a symbol of appreciation and support for their work to care for the ill and keep all of us safe during the COVID-19 pandemic.

A happy cacophony of horns, sirens and hoots — and definitely love — filled the air, while bystanders applauded and waved signs with messages of thanks to our health-care heroes — including those who were able to come out to the sidewalk, masks on, to see the spectacle.

"Wow!! I’m moved to tears!!!," posted Michelle McLean on Facebook. "Thank you to all of my fellow healthcare workers for doing what you do!!!! Thank you to the Town of Newmarket, York Regional Police, York Region EMS, Central York Fire, as well as all of the other people who showed up and showed their love and support."
