COVID-19 outbreak at Bradford Valley Care Community declared over

One more case of COVID-19 confimed in Bradford today

Two more Barrie residents living at a nursing home have died due to COVID-19.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has not yet released any information about the residents who have died, other than they were living at Owen Hill Care Community.

In total, 14 deaths of Barrie residents have been attributed to COVID-19, and of those, 11 have been residents at Owen Hill. An outbreak was declared at the facility on April 24.

As the outbreak in Barrie claims two more lives, an outbreak in a Bradford nursing home has been officially declared over after eight weeks.

Bradford Valley Care Community is now out of outbreak. One was declared at the facility on March 23. Since then, 12 residents have died as a result of the virus.

The health unit is reporting five new cases in the region today, including two in Wasaga Beach.

According to the updated case list the new cases out of Wasaga include a man and a woman in their 50s. Her case is attributed to community transmission and his case is listed under investigation.

A woman in her 20s from Barrie has also tested positive and her case is under investigation.

A man in his 30s from Bradford West-Gwillimbury has also tested positive and his case is under investigation.

The fifth case reported today is a woman in her 60s from Essa, whose case is attributed to close contact.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has confirmed a total of 436 cases in residents of the region since the pandemic began. Of those, 309 have recovered and 36 people have died.

The breakdown of cases in each municipality, according to the health unit is as follows:

Barrie (145 cases, 91 recoveries, 14 deaths, 1 in hospital), Bradford West Gwillimbury (90 cases, 68 recoveries, 12 deaths, 1 in hospital), New Tecumseth (44 cases, 27 recoveries, 2 in hospital, one death), Orillia (16 cases, 13 recoveries, 2 deaths), Collingwood (16 cases, 11 recoveries), Wasaga Beach (13 cases, 10 recoveries, 1 death), Clearview (7 cases, 6 recoveries, one death), Innisfil (30 cases, 26 recoveries), Springwater (8 cases, 5 recoveries, 1 death), Midland (6 cases, all recovered), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 2 deaths, 1 in hospital), Adjala-Tosorontio (7 cases, all recovered), Essa (10 cases, 7 recoveries, 1 death), Ramara (5 cases, 3 recoveries), Tiny (3 cases, 2 recoveries), Tay (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 1 in hospital), Penetanguishene (3 cases, 2 recoveries), and Severn (3 cases, all recovered) for a total of 417 cases in Simcoe County, including 292 recoveries and eight hospitalizations.

There are also 19 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 17 have recovered, one person from Muskoka Lakes has died.

The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 72.2 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 159.9 cases per 100,000 population.
