Health unit reporting 4 new cases of COVID-19 in Bradford

The health unit has reported six new cases in Simcoe County residents today

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported six new cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County today.

Four of the cases were found in Bradford West-Gwillimbury residents. A woman in her 50s (community-acquired), a man in his 50s (under investigation), a boy between 10 and 19 (close contact) and a man in his 30s (community-acquired).

There is also a new case out of Orillia. A man in his 50s has tested positive and his case is attributed to close contact.

A man in his 40s from Ramara is also among the latest COVID-19 cases reported by the health unit. His case was community-acquired.

Yesterday, the health unit reported two more residents of Owen Hill Care Community had died.

Today, staff released further details on the two women who died.

A woman in her 70s died on May 16, and a woman in her 80s died on May 15. Eleven residents of Owen Hill Care Community have now died as a result of the outbreak at the facility.

There have been 441 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region, and of those 422 have been Simcoe County residents.

Approximately 73 per cent of the people who have tested positive for COVID-19 in the Simcoe-Muskoka region have now recovered. Of the 441 total cases, 324 people have recovered, including 306 residents in Simcoe County. Thirty-five people from Simcoe County, and one resident from Muskoka have died from the coronavirus.

There are 81 active cases of COVID-19 in the county, seven people are currently hospitalized.

There have been 70 cases confirmed in residents living in institutions where a COVID-19 outbreak has been declared. Twenty-three residents have died, and three are hospitalized. At least 29 of those residents have recovered.

The breakdown of cases in each municipality, according to the health unit is as follows:

Barrie (145 cases, 99 recoveries, 14 deaths, 1 in hospital), Bradford West Gwillimbury (94 cases, 71 recoveries, 12 deaths, 1 in hospital), New Tecumseth (44 cases, 28 recoveries, 2 in hospital, one death), Orillia (17 cases, 13 recoveries, 2 deaths, one in hospital), Collingwood (16 cases, 11 recoveries), Wasaga Beach (13 cases, 10 recoveries, one death), Clearview (7 cases, 6 recoveries, one death), Innisfil (30 cases, 27 recoveries), Springwater (8 cases, 6 recoveries, 1 death), Midland (6 cases, all recovered), Oro-Medonte (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 2 deaths, 1 in hospital), Adjala-Tosorontio (7 cases, all recovered), Essa (10 cases, 7 recoveries, 1 death), Ramara (6 cases, 4 recoveries), Tiny (3 cases, 2 recoveries), Tay (5 cases, 2 recoveries, 1 in hospital), Penetanguishene (3 cases, 2 recoveries), and Severn (3 cases, all recovered) for a total of 422 cases in Simcoe County, including 306 recoveries and eight hospitalizations.

There are also 19 confirmed positive cases in Muskoka, and 17 have recovered, one person from Muskoka Lakes has died.

The case rate (including lab-confirmed cases only) for the Simcoe-Muskoka region is 72.9 cases per 100,000 population. The provincial average is 162.7 cases per 100,000 population.
