MPP Caroline Mulroney and Canadian charity, GlobalMedic drop off a large donation to the Helping Hand Food Bank on Saturday

Early Saturday morning, MPP Caroline Mulroney and Deputy Mayor James Leduc, along with GlobalMedic's Rahul Singh and Arpan Khanna made a special delivery of 925 pounds of food to the Bradford Helping Hand Food Bank.

The David McAntony Gibson Foundation, which operates as GlobalMedic, is a Canadian charity that provides humanitarian aid to people affected by natural disasters and complex emergencies worldwide. Singh founded the charity in 1998, in honour of his best friend David, who tragically passed away in February 1998.

The motto of the organization is “Serving the Global Community" and aims to deliver the maximum amount of aid with a minimum operating cost. They rely heavily on volunteers and donors in the community with a goal of getting the right aid to the right people at the right time.

The charity has committed to donating 330,000 pounds of food to local food banks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mulroney reached out to the charity on behalf of the community, seeking donations for the Bradford food bank.

The charity was quick to respond, and delivered an assortment of staple food items on Saturday including rice, chickpeas, barley, green lentils, and green peas secured through the charity's generous partners and donors.

Khanna is one of the volunteers of the organization who has been helping to pack food and delivering it to food banks across the province.

"It's a way for me to give back to the community, especially during these tough times. I count my blessings everyday but I know there are our neighbours, our friends, seniors and others that need support," he said. "I can't sit on the sidelines when I'm able to give back and do my part."

"This will help ensure that families in our community have access to the food they need during this difficult time," read a social media post from Mulroney. "We’re all in this together and we are #StrongerTogether."
