Dollarama has confirmed that an employee at its Newmarket location on Yonge Street tested positive for COVID-19 on Nov. 27.

The employee's last shift worked was on Nov. 21, and the company informed staff after receiving confirmation of the positive test on Nov. 27.

"A deep cleaning of the store was completed as per our standard COVID-19 procedures following this confirmation," said Lyla Radmanovich, Dollarama spokesperson.

"Dollarama has strict protocols in place to minimize risk to employees and customers in any proven or probable case of COVID-19, which have been developed in collaboration with public health officials. The store and its employees will continue to follow the various preventive measures in place to protect everyone's health, in accordance with the directives of public health officials."

NewmarketToday inquired about the case after an employee at the store at 17940 Yonge noted that York Region Public Health had not issued any public notice.

The public health unit is no longer able to confirm cases or provide further details to the media regarding specific workplace cases, according to York Region director of communications Patrick Casey.

"COVID-19 remains active within our communities and, unfortunately, this leads to positive cases being identified in a variety of settings," said Casey.

"Due to current demands to manage and monitor COVID-19 cases within York Region, we are not able to provide specific information on case numbers in situations. In cases where community exposure happens, York Region Public Health actively engages in the investigation and contact tracing of affected individuals."
