Bradford West Gwillimbury, ON (March 13, 2020) – The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury has been working closely with the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit to monitor the Novel-Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and determine an appropriate response to protect the health and safety of our community.

In light of the most recent recommendations for precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, the Town of BWG is closing the following facilities from 11:59 p.m. on Friday, March 13 until Monday, April 6, 2020:

  • BWG Leisure Centre
  • BWG Public Library and Cultural Centre
  • Bob Fallis Sports Centre
  • Bradford and District Memorial Community Centre

The buildings will be closed to the public and all recreational programs, permits and camps – including March Break programming – scheduled during this period are cancelled and all fees will be refunded.

All Town advisory committee meetings are cancelled through the end of April. Regular Council and Committee of the Whole Meetings will continue as scheduled; however, the Tuesday, March 17 meeting will be relocated to the upstairs auditorium of the Bradford and District Memorial Community Centre at 125 Simcoe Road where the larger space will allow for the necessary social distancing. A notice will be posted on the door of the Library to redirect attendees, and the meeting will begin at 7:15 p.m.

At this time, all other municipal administration offices are expected to remain open. Staff have increased sanitization procedures and hand sanitizer is available for visitors. Anyone who has travelled to an affected area or who is experiencing symptoms of illness is asked to follow the recommendations of the Health Unit for self-isolation and monitoring.

Continuous evaluation of services and staffing will be made as the local situation is updated, so residents are asked to check the Town’s website or @TownofBWG on Facebook for the latest information.
