'We're doing the best job we can,' says BWG Mayor

Mayor said he's thankful for citizens' ongoing commitment to putting others first

BradfordToday has received the following COVID-19 update from Mayor Rob Keffer:

March 20 - What a difference a week makes! Just last Friday, our staff were meeting to decide whether or not to proceed with March break programming.

Only seven days later, we’ve closed facilities and converted to “virtual” work wherever possible. All over Canada and the world, we are testing our ability to adapt to change and I’d like to think that we are doing the best job we can.

I want to first thank everyone who is working to provide essential services to our community. This includes town staff who ensure residents have clean drinking water, safe roads, and keep our wastewater treatment plant running 24/7. It also includes all of our staff who are working so hard to continue to serve the community by phone and email from their homes or in small (but well-spaced) groups at our various locations.

Thank you to everyone working in seniors care facilities, who are providing extra support to those who can no longer receive visits from family members. Thank you to everyone who is working in grocery stores, pharmacies and other retail and service locations to provide residents with the essentials.

And thank you to everyone working to grow, manufacture, package and deliver those goods. And of course, I have to mention our tireless first responders who put themselves out there to keep us all safe.

Thank you for your ongoing commitment to putting others first. I know I have forgotten many of the important people who are making a difference in our community.

Unless there are significant changes to the local situation over the weekend, you can look for my next update on Monday.

Stay healthy and keep in touch.

Best, Rob Keffer
