MUSIC ON MAIN CONCERT SERIES

The Music on Main series features Canadian Opera Company students Samuel Chan and Lauren Margison with Vlad Soloviev performing Schumann’s Dichterliebe and selections from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin and others at Trinity United Church on Saturday, March 9.

The Music on Main concerts are organized by Trinity United Church’s music director, Vlad Soloviev, 27, who is an energetic and talented concert pianist, with the support of the Trinity Choir.

The two guest performers are students of the prestigious Canadian Opera Company (COC) Ensemble Studio.

Samuel Chan was named one of CBC’s Top 30 Canadian Classical Musicians under 30 and has been praised for his “naturally produced, forwardly placed, attractive baritone.” His COC engagements include the Captain understudy in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin, as well as originating the role of Sychophantic Senator in the world premiere of Rufus Wainwright’s Hadrian, and understudying several other roles.

An avid recitalist, Samuel concentrated his academic studies on German lieder and late 19th-century/early 20th-century French song. He is second-prize winner of the 2016 COC Ensemble Studio Competition and winner of several other competitions.

Lauren Margison is a versatile soprano and has performed extensively both in Canada and internationally, specializing in classical, jazz and pop repertoire.

Recognized at an early age for her ability to communicate with an audience,  Lauren  was a member of the prestigious Atelier lyrique de l’opera de Montreal for two seasons. She was first-prize winner in the 2018 George London Foundation awards competition and in 2018 she became a member of the COC Ensemble Studio.

Lauren has shared the stage with such distinguished artists as Russell Braun, Isabel Bayrakdarian, Measha Brueggergosman, Louise Pitre, Jackie Richardson and her father, well-known Canadian tenor Richard Margison. Lauren performs acoss Canada with her father in their vocal duo Back to Back.

Tickets are $20 and $10 for students at 905-895-4851 or at door. The March 9 concert is at 7:30 p.m., with a reception to follow.

Trinity United Church is at 461 Park Ave., at Main Street, Newmarket.
