The following letter is in response to 'Brassard feels 'profound disappointment' over carbon tax vote,' published Nov. 6.

MP John Brassard has an alternative way to help his struggling constituents should he have the courage to use it.

"I have personally heard numerous heartbreaking stories from residents of Barrie-Innisfil who will be adversely affected by this decision," Brassard said. "They will be forced to shoulder the burden of the punishing carbon tax on their home heating bills, adding to their financial difficulties."

He should support Green MP Mike Morrice, who has called for a windfall tax of 15 per cent on oil and gas companies making over $1 billion in taxable income.

The Parliamentary Budget Officer (PBO) estimates that this could bring in over $4 billion in the next five years — $4 billion could cure a lot of heartbreak!

This would not be a radical departure for the government.

The PBO has already used the Canada Recovery Dividend this year to collect windfall taxes from banks and insurance companies.

Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander.
