Throughout my life there have been issues that I have been concerned about. No matter which government is in power, there are always things I might not agree with. But what Premier Ford is doing to the Greenbelt, both with this land grab as well as the Bradford Bypass, is unconscionable.

In this time of climate change, and population increase, we need to keep in mind how we create healthy space for all people, and the creatures that live among us.

Greenspace is needed, and the Greenbelt was put in place after consultation with public input, as well as environmental considerations. So, to take land out of the Greenbelt is wrong. What the premier has done, with no public consultation and in a clandestine manner, is another indication of a government and a leader doing what suits him and his lobbyists, and not what the people of Ontario want.

It has been clearly stated in the auditor general’s report that there is enough serviced land available to build the houses needed. I only have to drive around my own area here in Bradford to see land lying open and ready for development, within the town, and close to all the amenities people need.

Stop the Greenbelt land grab, change the Bradford Bypass route (estimated to cost $4 billion) to the original route at the Ravenshoe Road in Keswick. That route will cost less than half the amount of money and only cross one river, thus eliminating a lot of environmental impact. Money saved in this way can be put into a faltering health-care system.
