The following letter was received by Bradford West Gwillimbury Mayor Rob Keffer on his decision to not seek re-election in the October 2022 municipal election

Dear Town Residents,

It has been a privilege and an honour to serve as Mayor of Bradford West Gwillimbury, but I wish to announce that I will not be seeking re-election in the October 2022 election.

I want to extend my sincere thanks to the residents of Bradford West Gwillimbury for your confidence in me and to my fellow Councillors for your ongoing support.

We have accomplished a lot, as a team, and the future is bright for our Town.

I am proud of what we have accomplished.  It was always important to respect taxpayers’ dollars and every year we have brought in prudent budgets. We have looked after the mature areas of Town with revitalizing streets, sidewalks and parks. Yet, we have also been community builders, with new neighbourhoods being built, with trails, parks and infrastructure that are second to none. Henderson Park, a new fire hall and municipal works yards have been built, with a community hub at 177 Church St under construction. The Bradford Bypass is starting construction, and it will make a huge difference in the quality of life of our residents. The employment lands at Highway 400 are booming and a variety of housing types are under construction including the affordable housing development on Simcoe Road.  We have built a Town with a strong urban boundary, protected our environment and respected our agriculture community. And we have listened and worked collaboratively to achieve these important goals.

I want to say thank you to Town staff, especially our CAO Geoff McKnight for putting our vision into action.

After four years as Deputy Mayor and eight years as Mayor, the time is right for me to make this change. I am looking forward to spending more time with my family, and I would like to thank my wife, Jean and children for their support.

But there are still six months in this term of Council, and I am fully committed to the Town of BWG and to work hard each and every day until the inauguration of the new Council to continue to get things done.

Thank you for your support, and all the best.

Rob Keffer
