165 new COVID cases confirmed in Ontario today

There are 1,540 active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, which is down from 1,584 included in yesterday's report

Ontario's active COVID-19 cases have decreased today with 165 new cases reported and 207 new recoveries reported. 

While the number of new cases reported today is still in the higher end of daily reports for the month, it has dipped below yesterday's 203 new reported cases. 

The highest number of reported cases continue to be among the 20 to 39-year-old age category, with 66 of today's cases fitting into that group. Fifty-nine of today's cases were reported among the 40 to 59-year-old age group. 

There were 21 new cases reported in people aged 60 and over.

The epidemiological summary released today notes 39 new cases reported by Windsor-Essex County Health Unit. The second-highest increase came from Ottawa Public Health with 33 new cases, then 28 cases from Toronto, and 25 cases from Peel. 

Ottawa entered Stage 3 of the province's reopening plan earlier this month, while Peel, Windsor-Essex, and Toronto remain in Stage 2. 

There were two more deaths related to coronavirus confirmed today, one a person between the ages of 40 to 59, and the other between 60 and 79 years old. 

Of the 38,107 cases of COVID-19 confirmed by Public Health Ontario, 2,755 (7.2 per cent) have reportedly ended in death, including 1,788 long-term care residents and eight long-term care health workers. There have been 33,812 recoveries noted by the province, which is 88.7 per cent of all confirmed cases. 

There are 1,540 active cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, which is down from 1,584 included in yesterday's report. Ontario hospitals are treating 128 coronavirus patients currently, with 37 patients in intensive care and 19 patients on ventilators. 

There were 23,990 tests completed since the last provincial report, and there have been 1,910,109 COVID tests processed in Ontario labs so far this year.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has reported 637 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the region to date, with 606 of those reported in Simcoe County. 

Thirty-six people have died in Simcoe County and Muskoka and the health unit has reported 566 recoveries. The incidence rate for Simcoe-Muskoka region is 107.1 cases per 100,000 people in the population. 

There are 34 active cases of COVID-19 in Simcoe County including three people hospitalized, according to the health unit's July 21 epidemiological report.
