'A nice afternoon': Church hosting pre-Mother's Day tea Saturday

Greater Life Community Church celebration will raise funds for new sanctuary floor

There’s no person more deserving of a good cup of tea than mom.

In celebration of Mother’s Day, Bradford’s Greater Life Community Church is hosting an afternoon tea, from 3 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at the church at 5 Holland St. W., set to include an array of sandwiches, English scones, strawberry jam, dance performances, music and a 360 photo booth.

Ladies are welcome to enjoy being served by the men of the church, led by Pastor Eaton Grant who will also be performing the duties of head waiter for the afternoon.

“It will be a nice afternoon for women to meet women,” Venetta Bryan, church member and volunteer said. “Whether you're a mother or not, we do encourage that you come in and have afternoon tea with us.”

Each table is set to have a member of the church as a hostess to help lead conversation and the sharing of cherished memories of mothers, while those seated together will also be competing against other tables to see who can showcase the most fabulous hats.

No particular style is required and the table with the most “unique” and “lavish” head wear will be awarded with some splendid pens.

Those may come in handy for taking notes as the event is also set to feature guest speaker Marva Tyndale as she discusses the relationship between gifts and gaps.

“Even if you’re going through some gaps, it can also be beneficial. You might have to take that walk through to come to your gifts,” Bryan explained.

The event is being held on the Saturday in recognition that many people want to go out and celebrate with their mother on the Sunday.

“It’s going to be a really enjoyable afternoon,” Bryan said, adding that the church is hoping to accommodate 100 guests.

Funds raised from the event will go towards installing new flooring in the church’s sanctuary.

The cost to attend is $40 for adults and $20 for children. For more information, call the church at 289-579-9908.
