Ahmadiya Muslim Women's Association donate 270 pounds of fruit and vegetables to food bank (16 photos)

'It is our belief that showing kindness not only to our families but also to those in our community is of great importance,' says association member

Last month the Ahmadiyya Muslim Women's Association gave back to the community with donations to the Bradford Helping Hand Food Bank and My Sister's Place shelter in Alliston.

The association donated 270 pounds of fresh fruit and vegetables to the food bank, including potatoes, carrots and bananas.

"We were so glad that we are able to contribute in this manner as healthy eating is so important," said Aisha Tasneem, of the association's Bradford chapter.  "Our religion teaches us that we should give to others what we like for ourselves and fresh fruits and vegetables are on each of our grocery lists so we decided that we will try to donate fresh fruits and vegetables every month."

On Family Day, the women delivered meals from Popeye's Chicken to 25 residents at My Sister's Place shelter in Alliston.

"It is our belief that showing kindness not only to our families but also to those in our community is of great importance,"  said Tasneem. "We should include our community in our celebrations and happy occasions as they are part of our bigger family.

"We hope to keep up and increase the donations to the food bank and shelters in our area. I hope other residents and businesses in Bradford will also contribute to do the same as we encourage each other in doing good for our community," said Tasneem.
