Another early bird wins the prize at Carrot Fest

Winning ticket earns man $1,000; time running out to get tickets for Mammoth Draw

The Bradford Lions were out in full force at Carrot Fest on Saturday.

The new 2019 Chev Silverado 1500 4WD double-cab pick-up truck and 2019 Chev Malibu, top prizes in the Lions’ 66th annual Mammoth Draw, were on display near Bradford’s Four Corners, and the Lions themselves were out selling tickets as soon as Carrot Fest opened for the day.

Sales continued until the Lions took to the main stage at 5:30 p.m. to pull the second of three early-bird winning tickets, for $1,000 in cash, from the drum.

Congratulations to winner Jim Sellers (ticket 766).

Tickets for the Mammoth Draw are $120 each, and not only give holders a chance at $115,222.15 in prizes, including cash, the second prize of the Malibu and top prize of a Silverado; they admit two to the Mammoth Draw event on Sept. 7 at the Bradford Community Centre.

Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the annual Beef Buffet Dinner, evening of social gaming with professional dealers, plus dancing and live entertainment — this year, by Fresh Horses, a Garth Brooks tribute.

Then there’s the excitement of the elimination-style draw itself. Only 1,700 tickets have been printed; the last ticket left in the drum wins the pick-up.

Tickets are available at the Mammoth Draw display outside the Bradford Library, selected retailers in Bradford, from any Lion or by calling 905-775-9170 — but hurry. The third and final early-bird draw for $1,000 takes place this Saturday, Aug. 24, at Lions Community Awareness Day at the library from 1 to 3 p.m.

All early-bird winners are returned to the drum for a chance in the main draw.

The draw is the club’s major fundraiser, raising money for community projects that include the BWG Leisure Centre, Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation, minor sports, public speaking competitions in schools, dog guides, the BWG Community Dinner, Santa Claus Parade and the food bank.

Help the Lions continue to help the community — and the reward might be a Mammoth Draw prize.
