Beer for a Year raffle helps fund Innisfil wellness centre

Innisfil Rotary Club members top up donation to $10,000 for Rizzardo Health and Wellness Centre

Fundraising continues as the Rizzardo Health and Wellness Centre takes shape on the Innisfil town campus lands at Yonge Street and Innisfil Beach Road.

The Innisfil Rotary Club dedicated funds raised through its recent Beer for a Year raffle to the Rizzardo Centre, topping up the $7,000 raised to a total of $10,000.

The Rotarians presented a cheque to the town and members of the Rizzardo Centre fundraising committee on Monday in front of the construction site.

“This,” said Rotarian Al Gilchrist with a wave at the construction, “is going to be completed long before Rotary stops giving money,” promising an ongoing commitment.

The cost of the Rizzardo Centre is estimated at $20 million, with $3.5 million to come from fundraising within the community, and gifts from donors.

The two-storey, 4,134-square-metre building will house family physicians, a drop-in clinic, diagnostic imaging and radiology, blood lab, a range of health care providers, mental-health and addiction counselling, and a community health hub, with a community kitchen.

“The Rotary Club always steps up to the plate, no matter what,” said former Innisfil Mayor Gord Wauchope, under whose leadership the project was initiated. “It’s great to have the Rotary Club. They’ve been in existence for about 10 years, and they’ve done some fantastic things. This is for all the people of Innisfil.”

The Rizzardo Centre is slated to open in spring of 2019.

The Innisfil Rotary Club promised the next Beer for a Year raffle will also benefit the centre, with “tickets sold earlier, more tickets, and more money” for the centre, promised Gilchrist.
