Bradford Catholic school celebrates 'story of love, forgiveness'

'We want students to live out the Easter story daily in their interactions,' says teacher at St. Jean De Brebeuf Catholic School

The celebration of Holy Week and Easter was in full swing this week at a local Catholic elementary school.

Kindergarten students at St. Jean De Brebeuf Catholic School marked Easter with Stations of the Cross and a Last Supper celebration in their classrooms.

“Holy Week is our story, a story about love and forgiveness. The story of Easter is a story that we want our students to continue living long after the Easter season has passed. We want students to live out the Easter story daily in their interactions with peers, with adults, with family and friends,” said kindergarten teacher Melissa Bissonette.

“The Easter story is a story we as students, parents, families and educators are proud of. It is who we strive to be daily and how we treat others in the community.”

Bissonette stressed the importance of Lent.

“It gives a glimpse into what a sacrifice looks and feels like, and Easter brings everyone to a common understanding of what Jesus went through and how forgiving and full of love He is,” she said.

“As a school, we prepare for the Easter season by participating in an Ash Wednesday liturgy, almsgiving, and daily acts of faith in addition to other Lenten activities such as the Lenten Soup for the ShareLife campaign.”
