Bradford church’s Treasure Sale ‘better than a yard sale’

Bradford United Church hosts monthly rummage sales to help pay its bills

The next Treasure Sale at Bradford United Church will take place Oct. 27 just in time for Halloween.

But organizer Helen Walker isn’t promising a Halloween theme, for the monthly fundraising rummage sale. “It depends on donations,” she said.

Church and community members cull and declutter their closets, cupboards, basements and garages, and donate their unwanted treasures to the church. The items are set out for sale once a month, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., and the community is invited to drop in and hunt for bargains. The price? A donation to the church.

The Treasure Sale gives residents an opportunity to discover treasures, recycle, and help pay the bills at the historic church, located at 66 Barrie St. in Bradford.

“I call this better than a yard sale,” said one shopper, walking out of the last Treasure Sale with a Weed Wacker in working condition.
