Staff and students at Bradford District High School (BDHS) are fundraising for the Adopt-a-Family campaign – collecting toys and gifts for families who have registered for assistance with the Helping Hand Food Bank.

The school, under guidance teacher Jenn Brake, has been hosting this event since 2006. Throughout the years, BDHS has raised over $100,000 in donations for the Adopt-a-family program.

BDHS fundraises for children across the community of Bradford West Gwillimbury, so that each child can continue to believe in the magic of Santa. Staff, students and parents help by donating new toys, gift cards and money.

The campaign includes fundraising by each home room, plus an on-going spare change drive happening until Dec.12, inviting all students and faculty to participate by donated their spare change.

“It’s good for teens to be part of the “Adopt-a-Family” event. It gives the students a sense of community,” Brake said. “Our students learn that we are all part of a community” – and that a little kindness and giving will go a long way during the holiday season. By being involved in events like this, they help to spread joy and happiness this holiday season.

“My goal this year is to help make sure that every family who registers with the food bank gets their wishes fulfilled,” Brake said.

Members of the community are encouraged to help – by donating at BDHS, or adopting a family of their own, to provide a wonderful and memorable Christmas.
