Bradford residents can look forward to 15-minute, two-way, all-day GO Service as part of the province's GO Expansion plan.

Metrolinx has planned to expand all-day GO service further north along the Barrie line.

The plan announced this past Thursday, will include 15-minute, two-way, all-day electrified GO train service extended past Aurora GO Station to Bradford GO in the future. Barrie South and Allandale Waterfront will see 30-minute two-way, all-day GO service.

"Having two-way, all-day 15 minute electrified train service available to residents every day will ensure growing communities like Bradford will have the freedom to live, work and play where they choose," said Metrolinx Chief Spokesperson Anne Marie Aikins. "Not only a boost to the economy, it will mean transit is a more viable transportation option for more people."

The goal of the expansion project is to build over 1,200 kilometers of rapid transit across the region to ensure that over 80 percent of residents will live within two kilometres of rapid transit.

The GO Expansion project is currently in the procurement phase with details and information on timelines and service levels to come.

"When the contractor is awarded for GO Expansion we will have a better idea of timing as to how soon we can get to 15-minute service," confirmed Aikins.

In addition to the service expansion, the Bradford GO Station will be getting a facility makeover, with improvement projects that will include heated bus shelters, additional parking spaces and a reconfigured pickup and drop off area. The work is set to start this fall. You can read more about that project in our story here
