Bradford mom celebrates 10-year kidney donation with TV makeover

Edish Elmazi was nominated by her daughter to appear on the Mother’s Day episode of The Marilyn Denis Show

Ten years after donating a kidney to her dying sister, Edish Elmazi was treated to a TV makeover just in time for Mother’s Day.

The Bradford West Gwillimbury woman was nominated by her daughter, Arzie Elmazi, to be part of the Mother’s Day episode of The Marilyn Denis Show, which airs Friday morning.

“My mom is the most amazing person I know,” she told BradfordToday.

Ten years ago, after having medical tests done, Edish discovered she was the only match in the family for kidney donation to her sister. She did not tell her kids about it until the day of the surgery, Arzie said.

“(Now), they’re both living extremely great lives,” she said, adding her aunt can travel without dialysis equipment. “My mom is probably one of the most selfless people I know.”

Arzie said her mom is so used to taking care of others, it was meaningful to be able to help treat her to a day all about her.

The makeover included a new outfit, hairstyling and makeup, and a TV crew came to BWG a couple weeks ago to film a short video about Edish and Arzie, who are also next-door neighbours.

Although Arzie said she was nervous during the interviews, and her “heart was racing” on camera, she focused on her mom.

“She worries more about everyone (else) more than herself. She got to live in a moment of life about her,” she said. “She was so happy.”
