It's Ontario Heritage Week and the Town of BWG has made the official proclamation.

WHEREAS: Historic architecture and the stories they represent make up the
heritage of Bradford West Gwillimbury; and
WHEREAS: Heritage is a living legacy that helps us understand our past,
provides context for the present, and influences our future; and
WHEREAS: Our community is enhanced and sustained by its heritage places
and spaces, creating a place of pride and social well-being; and
WHEREAS: Heritage Week is held to recognize the legacy that is the foundation
of our community, connecting our citizens through shared values. We celebrate and preserve our history by embracing, exploring and protecting heritage.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:
That His Worship Mayor Rob Keffer and Members of Council proclaim February 17-23, 2020 as ONTARIO HERITAGE WEEK in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Bradford West Gwillimbury is home to eight heritage designated sites in Bradford, including The Auld Kirk on Line 6, Bradford Town Hall on Holland Street East, and Collings House on Moore Street.

The Gummerson/Thorpe House in Bond Head is in progress of being officially designated.

To commemorate the week, The Town of BWG will be using their Facebook page to post photos of each site over the next seven days.

"It is important to preserve our heritage assets because it gives a sense of place and community," noted Mayor Rob Keffer.

"It is a unique view of how our town has grown, and the challenges that were overcome."

On Feb. 18, council will vote on persuing a Heritage Conservation District for the hamlet of Bond Head.

If council approves the recommendation, staff will pursue funding sources for a consultant to undertake the writing of an HCD Plan and Guidelines including application for a grant from the Simcoe County Culture, Tourism and Heritage fund and report back to council, noted Ryan Windle, Manager, Office and Community Planning with the town.
