The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit has listed Bradford Valley Care Community long-term care home and The Elden of Bradford retirement home are in COVID outbreak.

According to the SMDHU website, the outbreak at the Elden was declared on Dec. 31, 2021, and is facility-wide.

Sales and Marketing Manager for The Elden Jaime Robertson says although they are listed on the outbreak list on the public health website, there are currently no COVID cases in the building.

"The Elden increased rapid testing to include all staff, visitors and essential caregivers daily, out of an abundance of caution due to the rising case counts in Ontario," said Robertson. "In doing so, we have captured a small number of positive visitor and staff cases prior to entry. All of these cases are isolating at home and recovering well."

She said that residents and staff have been PCR tested and are awaiting final results, with all rapid tests returning negative.

The outbreak at Bradford Valley Care Community is affecting the Heritage and Garden units and was declared on Jan. 2, 2022. There are currently three active resident cases, and 11 active staff cases.

"The team at Bradford Valley Care Community has implemented stringent infection prevention and control protocols and continues to monitor residents and staff for COVID-19," said Nadia Daniell-Colarossi, a spokesperson for Sienna Living. "We continue to see that symptoms are minimized thanks to the added protection of the third vaccine dose.

"We appreciate the tireless work and dedication of the team at Bradford Valley, who are working around the clock to focus on residents' health and support them in every way.

"The Omicron variant is highly transmissible and rapidly spreading across Ontario. Sienna has implemented stringent IPAC measures, government restrictions and increased IPAC refresher education sessions in all its care communities to ensure residents and staff are safe and receive the best care during this latest wave of the pandemic."
