Breakfast with Santa and Scouts (14 photos)

Scout group hosts Breakfast with Santa fundraiser for group's upcoming trip to Switzerland

The South Lake Simcoe Area Scouts group held its first ever Breakfast with Santa fundraiser on Saturday morning at the Bradford United Church.

The $10 breakfast included fluffy pancakes, hot sausage and bacon, fresh fruit, coffee, tea and juice, with a special visit from Santa himself.

All proceeds from the event will be going toward the Scout group's upcoming trip to Switzerland in July.

The Scout group will be visiting the Kandersteg International Scout Center, founded in 1923 by Scout founder, Lord Badden Powell.

Twelve-year-old Scout, Connor Metzner from Holland Landing said he is excited for the trip and getting to see all the mountains. There will be 250 Scout members from all across Canada going on the trip.

"I'm excited to leave the continent, I've never left the continent before," he said.

Marty Blair was flipping pancakes in the kitchen Saturday morning all in support of the Scouts. A mechanic by trade, he has been involved with the Scouts for 25 years, putting all his children through the programs, and frequently volunteering his time to help cook at many of the group's events.

"They (his children) left, they grew up, I still stayed," he laughed.

He says it's neat to see how the Scouts grow up from young Beavers, ages five through eight, to Venturers in their teens, and how they develop their skills as they go through the programs.

All food for the breakfast was graciously donated by Peter Reali's No Frills in Bradford.

Lookout for more fundraising events from the group coming up in the new year.
