CADETS' CORNER: Cadets rank up at recent meeting

Local youth promoted to leading air cadets

Cadets’ Corner is a weekly column submitted by the 37 Orville Hand Air Cadet Squadron.

On March 7, at the beginning of the regular training night, a sizable number of the 37 Orville Hand Air Cadet Squadron’s newest cadets were promoted to leading air cadets.

For promotion to leading air cadet, a cadet must actively participate in the proficiency Level 1 of the local headquarters training program for a minimum of six months.

Cadets Alkhanov, Alphonso, Hille, Hille, Hok, Lukashuk, Muruya, Purdy, Storey and Tutt were all given their ranks of leading air cadet by Deputy Commanding Officer Capt. J-P Johnson.

Three cadets are being highlighted in this week’s Cadets’ Corner.

Alkhanov, at 13 years old, believes professionalism is important in being a cadet. He joined the squadron on the second training night in September 2023 because his friend wanted him to. He says his favourite part of the cadet program is the discipline, and his goal is to earn the rank of flight sergeant one day.

Training is what 12-year-old Storey enjoys most about Thursdays nights. He joined cadets because his dad was a cadet growing up, and Storey would one day like to earn the rank of flight sergeant and would love to be a pilot one day.

Levelling up was what Tutt was most looking forward to this training year. At 12 years old and with this first promotion, she is one step closer to earning the rank of warrant officer, which she hopes to do one day.

The 37 Orville Hand Royal Canadian Air Cadet Squadron continually accepts recruit applications throughout the year. Completed application packages will be accepted online at bradfordaircadets.ca/joining-information.
