CADET'S CORNER: Effective speaking competition prep underway for 37 Squadron

8 cadets will be participating in this years Effective Speaking Competition, which provides them an opportunity to increase self-confidence, ability to reason and express ideas

Welcome to Cadets' Corner. The goal of Cadets' Corner is to help promote and recruit youth to the local Cadets Squadron.
Another season of Effective Speaking is underway with 37 Squadron, this is a program where cadets have an opportunity to participate in delivering prepared speeches based on a topic they choose from the list of options.

Here are the topics for 2023:

• What is the relevancy of the monarchy in Canada to the Air Cadet program in this post Jubilee year?

• What is the impact of space junk?

• What do you think about man building an outpost on the moon? (or How useful would an outpost be on the Moon or Mars?)

• What is the future of aviation as it relates to unmanned vehicles?

• Should we re-write history when we find out new information? (or What is cancel culture and should it be relevant?)

• How environmentally friendly are electric vehicles?

• What should be society’s priorities?

• What does it mean to buy local?

• What is sustainable energy?

• Cadet Choice: must fit into one of these categories: Cadet Life; Science and Technology; Aviation; Canadian History or Citizenship

8 cadets will be participating in this years Effective Speaking Competition. Cadets have started meeting Tuesday evenings and will continue to do so for the next 8-10 weeks.

Just a few of the benefits of the Effective Speaking Competition are to provide an opportunity for Air Cadets to increase their self confidence; and increase their ability to reason, organize and express ideas and to promote the citizenship component of local squadron training, as well as to increase public awareness regarding the citizenship and leadership aspects of the Air Cadet program at the national, provincial and local levels. The program provides an opportunity for Air Cadets to find their voice and build self-confidence through practice, instruction, and competition.
