November has come and gone, and so has the moustache of Coun. Peter Ferragine after raising $400 in his Movember challenge in support of men's health.

Ferragine has been taking part in the moustache growing fundraiser for the past 10 years and hopes to continue, perhaps with more team members next year.

"It's doesn't require much effort and is a fun way to raise some funds," he said of the annual event.

What started off as a fundraiser for prostate cancer has since evolved into a worldwide fun, fundraising challenge for testicular cancer as well as mental health and suicide prevention.

According to the Movember website, on average, men die four years earlier than women in Canada and globally, men are dying six years earlier than women, for largely preventable reasons.

"Especially during these times, I have a huge appreciation for anyone who opens their wallet to help those in need," Ferragine said about his fundraising.

"With Christmas around the corner, fundraisers need help now more than ever, and anyone who can help, no matter the amount, is greatly appreciated; any donation makes a difference," he said.

With the money raised,  Movember can continue to deliver the kind of programs, information and awareness that will help the community weather the COVID storm and beyond, and to keep lifesaving cancer research and trials on track. The goal is to reduce the number of men dying prematurely by 25 percent and halving the number of deaths from prostate and testicular cancer by 2030.

While Ferragine was pleased with the 'duster' he grew over the month, he says his wife Amanda was happy to see it go.
