In advance of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day (Oct. 8), a unified day of action to celebrate and support hospice and palliative care around the world, County of Simcoe representatives met with Simcoe County Hospice Alliance members to raise the flag at the county’s administration centre in commemoration of this.

Along with raising the flag for World Hospice and Palliative Care Day, county Coun. Rob Keffer and general manager of health and emergency services Jane Sinclair presented the alliance with a funding instalment for 2021 and 2022, towards the county’s five-year funding commitment of $2.5 million ($500,000 a year from 2021 to 2025).

“These incredible teams of health-care professionals provide terminally ill individuals and their loved ones with compassionate comfort and care during their hour of need. We are pleased to be able to provide these important funds to enable our partners at the Simcoe County Hospice Alliance to continue to grow and expand their services to help even more of our residents and families who are in a time of need.” — County of Simcoe Warden George Cornell

“The Simcoe County Hospice Alliance is grateful for this support from County of Simcoe council and applauds their ongoing commitment towards improving access to high-quality palliative care. We look forward to continued dialogue as these projects come to fruition.” — Kelly Hubbard, chair, Simcoe County Hospice Alliance
