The results are in, and the fall edition of Bradford’s Curbside Treasure Hunt from Oct. 26 and 27 was a success, with 93 percent of respondents saying they would participate again.

According to the survey results received, 49 percent of participants had something to give away at the curb, 18 percent only hunted, and 33 percent of people both donated and collected items.

More than half of the respondents indicated they had found something treasure-worthy to take home. And two-thirds of the participants agreed that a two-day event is better than one, even though it rained on the second day for the fall event.

After requests to make the hunt earlier in the year, the Town of BWG have decided to arrange for the Curbside Treasure Hunts in 2020 to take place on the last weekend in May and September.

Fortunately, many of the leftover items from the event were not brought to the dump, with most residents keeping them or donating to charity.

The only negative feedback received was that there were many broken and unusable items left at the curb. While the Town of BWG has no control over what is put out, they said they will continue to remind people that the items should be in usable, working condition or a note should indicate if something is broken but repairable.

After the hunt was over, BWG Enforcement were out to check the streets for leftover items which resulted in 17 notices, just slightly over the 14 from the June event, but not enough to disband the program.

“The biggest challenge in getting any new event off the ground is awareness so we’re really happy with the level of participation seen in the first year and know it will only grow from here,” said Town of Bradford West Gwillmbury’s Community Relations Officer, Caleigh Clubine.

Mark your calendars—the 2020 Curbside Treasure Hunt dates will be Saturday May 30 and Sunday May 31 and Saturday Sept. 26 and Sunday Sept. 27.
