SIMCOE COUNTY - On Monday, Fierté Simcoe Pride (FSP) released its #ProudVote Questionnaire, asking candidates in the upcoming Ontario general election about their plans to support gender and sexually diverse communities in Simcoe County and across Ontario.
As one of the few organizations in Simcoe County devoted to serving the gender and sexually diverse communities, along with The Gilbert Centre and Barrie Pride, FSP is excited to offer candidates the opportunity to engage the LGBTQ2+ community in the election an share their platforms.
“The results of this election will have a significant impact on gender and sexually diverse communities in Simcoe County and Ontario as a whole,” said Brandon Rhéal Amyot, president of FSP, “we have worked closely with all levels of government over the years, and this is one way we can continue to build relationships and advocate for our community.”
The first responses have started to come in, and on International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOTB) no less. Founded in 2004 to draw the attention of policymakers, opinion leaders, social movements, the public and the media to the violence and discrimination experienced by LGBTI people internationally, Amyot says it feels timely that leaders and others have begun to engage.
Candidates and parties have until May 27 to respond. Responses to the questionnaire will be uploaded as they are received at this website
