Food bank gets $1,500 boost from South Simcoe Police

The Helping Hand Food Bank is one of the recipients of funds raised from the sales of SSP's K9 Plush Pups

South Simcoe Police (SSP) Chief Andrew Fletcher stopped by the Helping Hand Food Bank on Monday morning to drop off a cheque of $1,500, which was part of the proceeds raised from the service's K9 plush fundraiser.

Over the weekend, the SSP was stationed at Sobeys in Alcona for their Stuff a Trailer event in support of Simcoe Muskoka Family Connexions, bringing toys and food to those in need over the holidays.

In addition, the Service was also selling their K9 plush pups, which resembles that of PSD dog Nitro.

The pups were first made available for purchase to the public this past summer at Bradford Pet Valu. The Pet Valu store in Bradford is an important community partner for SSP, with franchise owners Liz and Bob Pegg and their daughter Jennifer sponsoring Nitro with a lifetime of Performatrin Food, as they have done with SSPS K9 Units for decades

The plush event was such a hit, they brought them back just in time for Christmas.

Each pup was sold for $20 cash, with all proceeds going to local charities. In total, the pup fundraiser brought in $4,000 for local charities, including the Bradford Food Bank and Innisfil Food Bank.
