Foot-stomping fun at the Legion's Hootenany (6 photos)

Hee Haw Hootenany at the Bradford Legion was a hoot

It’s notoriously difficult to get people out to events scheduled on the Thanksgiving long weekend: people tend to spend the weekend at family get-togethers or watching football.

Alice Organ and Laura Hollingshead managed to lure guests to the HeeHaw Hootenany at the Bradford Legion on Saturday night, with the promise of a great dinner of pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans and fresh-baked corn bread, followed by dancing to Caribou Country.

“We’re like an entertainment committee,” said Hollingshead, as she wheeled a cart filled with food into the newly-renovated Legion Hall.

The organizers had decorated the hall on a country theme, with help from BWG Mayor Rob Keffer, who reportedly dropped off cornstalks and bales of hay.

And guests got into the spirit of the event, dressing up in their best plaid shirts, cowboy boots and cowboy hats, to enjoy the hootenanny.

The next major event by the ‘entertainment committee’ will be a Down East Christmas on Saturday, Nov. 30. Tickets will be $20, for a dinner of beef stew, coleslaw, cheese biscuits and dessert at 7 p.m., followed at 8 p.m. by dancing to the music of Caribou Country.

Will there be mummers? “Oh yes, for sure!” said Organ. “And skits!”

Contact the Legion, 905-775-5025, for tickets.
