Excelsior!

Admittedly, the introduction of another comic book festival in our region has had me looking forward to this weekend for a bit. But if flipping through old editions of Batman and the X-Men or hanging out with Stormtroopers isn’t really your thing, there’s plenty else to do in South Simcoe in the coming days.

Here’s what’s happening in Bradford and Innisfil on Saturday and Sunday:

Inaugural ComicFEST

The Innisfil ideaLAB and Library’s Lakeshore branch (967 Innisfil Beach Rd.) will host its first ComicFEST Saturday, April 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’ll showcase and celebrate pop culture with local vendors, cosplayers, artists and gaming. From iconic characters to imaginative tales, this event aims to bridge the gap between literacy and the comics realm. For more, visit innisfilidealab.ca/comicfest.

Sunnybrae Community Yard Sale

This inaugural yard sale will be held in the Stroud Innisfil Community Centre Arena parking lot (7883 Yonge St.) Sunday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Rent a space (two adjacent parking spots) for $20 and all money brought in at your table is yours to keep. Anyone who wants to donate items can do so at the Sunnybrae table, with all proceeds benefiting technology improvements at Sunnybrae Public School. Donations can be dropped off starting at 9 a.m. — no clothing, stuffed toys, or heavy furniture will be accepted though. To reserve a spot, arrange a donation drop-off or ask a question, email the Sunnybrae parent council at [email protected].

BWG Music and Poetry Circle

What's a music and poetry circle? Come see for yourself at the Bradford Public Library (425 Holland St. W.) on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. Bring a song, an instrument or a piece of poetry. You can also just sit, relax and enjoy as neighbours share something they're working on. All ages and experience levels are welcome. Further information can be found at calendar.townofbwg.com.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner

Join the Bradford Baha'i community for a free hot chicken supper, in partnership with the town, at the Bradford and District Memorial Community Centre (125 Simcoe Rd.) Sunday at 6 p.m. For more details, visit calendar.townofbwg.com.
