The RAW and REFLECTIVE 2020 calendar was launched to give a voice to cancer survivors (and those who have lost the struggle) and to bring awareness to the impact of this fateful diagnosis.

Cancer rates are rising rapidly. As of 2020 one in two people will experience a cancer diagnosis in their lifetime. One in two. The Canadian Cancer Society statistics mean that there will be over 7,700 cases here in our community alone.

Spearheaded by local entrepreneur Sharon Smith in the fall of 2018, the Raw and Reflective calendar features 13 models, 14 of Barrie’s most accomplished photographers and videographers, a graphic designer, an editor and a dedicated volunteer committee who brought this project together to raise funds for Gilda’s Club Simcoe Muskoka.

The project has been sponsored by a number of generous firms in Barrie and across the county. It takes a village – just as it does to deal with cancer.

Gilda’s Club of Simcoe Muskoka ensures that no–one in our region has to face cancer alone. In spite of receiving no funding from government subsidies, Gilda’s Clubs do not turn anyone away. They operate over 700 programs and welcome all affected by cancer with understanding, compassion and care.

On this, their 10th anniversary, we are proud to have the opportunity to support one of our critical resources in the fight against this disease we know as cancer.
