With today's weather warning and forecast of strong winds, GO Transit is warning riders that there could be delays in the system today.
Metrolinx said service is currently running smoothly and maintenance crews are out to remove any tree branches or other debris on the tracks that would make them unpassable to trains.
They have also introduced a new initiative to mitigate issues in real time.
"For the first time this afternoon, we are also putting specially trained teams on some of our GO trains that have the ability to react quickly and remove most debris that could create problems,” said Metrolinx spokesperson Matt Llewellyn. “On the trains they’re riding, we expect they will be able to significantly reduce the length of any potential delays.”
They said every effort is being made to keep trains and buses running on time, but the weather could cause unforeseen delays.
If you are taking GO Transit today, you're asked to give yourself extra time to get where you're going.
“We’re also telling customers they need to be aware of their surroundings while travelling around the region today, too,” Llewellyn said. “High winds may cause loose objects and debris to blow into our parking lots and onto our platforms. Please, be safe and if you see something, say something. Call 1-877-297-0642 anytime, day or night to report a safety-related concern around the GO Transit network.”
Riders are advised to check the service updates site regularly for information about delays or cancellations.
