NEWS RELEASE
WALK FOR CHIARI, JENNIFER DONKIN
*************************
Harvey’s Bradford is going to be handling the barbecue for the third annual Walk for Chiari on July 13.

Chiari malformation, which affects one in 1,000 people, is a structural defect of the skull that causes compression of the cerebellum, the part of the brain that governs balance, and the brain stem. BWG resident Mason Donkin, seven, has the condition and has been raising money and awareness about it for years.

Keith Scott, one of the owners of Harvey’s Bradford, has been more than supportive. There will be four staff members coming out the day of the event to run the barbecue. They will be serving hotdogs and hamburgers.

At Harvey's, customers also have until tomorrow (July 12) to donate $2 or $5 when they order their food, and then they get to write their name on a purple ribbon that will be placed on the wall by the registers. This fundraiser started July 2. It has been doing well so far, as staff have asked for more paper ribbons over this past weekend.

It is amazing to see a restaurant in town offering to help support Mason and his fight to raise enough money to open the first Canadian research centre for Chiari. We are so full of emotion and feel very blessed to have such great community involvement in our event.
