It was a hot, sunny day for the BWG Fire car wash in support of the local food bank on Saturday.
"We had such a great turn out thanks to the community!" said firefighter, Nicole Higgins.
Participants lined their vehicles behind the fire station to drop off their donations to the Bradford Helping Hand Food Bank before proceeding through the hall where crews soaked, scrubbed and rinsed off the cars. But not before getting a good hose down from the Tower 1017 fire truck.
One little boy, two-year-old Landon was more excited than anyone to take part in the event. He was first in line with his fireman costume, and even stayed throughout the day to help dry off the cars.
"He just loves fire trucks," said his mother, Jackie Riley.
When she saw the car wash advertised online, she knew she had to bring him.
"Every time we go in the car we have to drive by here (the fire hall) to see if the fire trucks are awake," she laughed. "This is the most exciting day of his life."
Retired fire captain Garth Bray was also on hand to help out the crews with washing. He retired in February 2020 and says it has been an adjustment after 32 years of working as both a volunteer and full time firefighter.
"All of a sudden one day you're here...and the next day I wasn't here," he said.
"It's good to see the people," he said on his participation in the weekend event.
The three hour car wash brought in a pickup truck full of food and over $1,300 for The Helping Hand Food Bank.
Special thanks to community partners Bradford Rental for donating the car washing supplies and Sobey's for their food donation.
