It’s the most colourful time of the year at Blue Mountain

One million lights will be dancing to the music now through March Break

As temperatures drop and the snow starts to fall, Blue Mountain is just warming up, and becoming way brighter than ever before.

The second-annual Blumination Dream Trail welcomes you to stroll through the Village and around the Mill Pond to once again witness one million individual lights arranged in innovative and interactive displays.

This year, it will last much longer than the holidays. The installations will carry their magic all the way until March Break.

From the “Frozen Garden” to the “Field of Dreams,” locals and tourists alike are invited to experience the spectacle of lights scattered along the one-kilometre trail.

And this year, all of the elements will “dance to music,” thanks to engineering and technology created by Smash Reality Inc., a Collingwood-based tech company.

“We’ve really enhanced the trail this year. We have some new and exciting elements, but the big change is that all the big elements are sequenced to music, every hour on the hour,” said Patti Kendall, director of marketing and events for Blue Mountain Village Association (BMVA).

“It’s been a labour of love, but it’s bigger and better and it’s really great to see it all come together,” says April Morwood, chief operations officer of Smash Reality. Morwood and her team have been staring at the displays on a computer for months now, so they are excited to see them come to life.

The journey ends at the Events Plaza, where the “Dream Tree” stands tall, dancing along with the rest of the installations to a mix of Christmas and pop tunes.

“People constantly comment, saying this whole thing is like a Hallmark Christmas movie,” said Shannon Szucs, marketing manager of the BMVA. Szucs’ favourite installation is the “Mind Warp.”

Earlier this fall, Blumination received the Tourism Event of the Year Award presented by the Tourism Industry Association of Ontario at a gala held on home turf.

The Dream Trail is hosting an official opening party on Nov. 30, where Frost the Fox and other festive friends will make an experience and fireworks will light the sky at 8:15 p.m.
